Life as I know it...

Once upon a time I was tagged with the computer meme by my favourite Hamster... I was hoping that I could manage to take a picture when my "computer areas" were clean, but I am just to busy... so here for your viewing pleasure are my computer areas: I know, what do two people need with three computers...
Well, let me tell you...
The laptop is what was my lifeline during bedrest, I love my laptop, and though it may technically be called ours, it is mine...

the flat screen was a Christmas present and the other...

Well, it was too cheap to pass up and so we thought why not... that way when my mom stays with us we can each sit at a computer and ignore eachother like any good American family in the technical age.

In other news, Schatz and I are trying to start a German school, there is not really a weekday school here that serves the purpose of providing a language based European education so we are working with the German government as well as the local Swiss, Austrian and German consuls to start one. We may have found a partner school/church and it is very very exciting! The school was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, so the location is architecturally interesting. It is not in an area where most of the German, Austrian or Swiss parents live, but it is close to freeways. We are excited none the less, and since we will be uniform based, I will pick one based on my own personal experience with El Colegio Aleman (my German school in South America).

  1. Oooh, do update more about you starting a school...
    thats really interesting!!

I have thought of starting something small... but not as big scale as yours!!

I dont know about America.. but in Singapore.. parents are really uptight about the children's education.. and they usually employ private tutors for extra lessons!

  2. Wow. A German school. Very nifty. How would a Waldorf school relate to what you are working on? Would it be at all similar? Would your school be a German immersion school?

  3. Waldorf...
Well, when I asked Schatz abou tit he said...
    "No, most definitely not!"
When I asked about the Waldorf he mentioned something about it being anti-authority and, I am assuming "hippyish"... I asked what the school we are trying to start would be, I think it is a basic German Department of Education sponsored project. It has been interesting to work with the representative, he is a kind gentleman who seems to be under the rather mistaken notion that I speak German... I think it is because I know enough to barely know what they are all talking about. Now we just have to start a 501(c)3 and once we are incorporated and get at least 9 parents... we are good to go.
sigh, it is a bit overwhealming...

  4. Waldorf is rather hippy-ish. Okay, very. But I like the educational philosophy very well.

  5. It sounds a lot like Montessori (my preschool experience).

When I ran a focus group to design a mission statement, we had a wide exposure to educational philosophies as a vital element.

I do know that the system would be one designed to allow students to achieve the Matura or Abitur.

It would combine German and American curriculums, as a matter of fact I have the curriculum somewhere, just did not look at it that closely. As a product of the overseas German school system, I bought in right away. I loved my German school and thought it was some of the best education I received (after considering all the different ones I was exposed to).

  6. They all looks pretty tidy to me. But three computers? It's true then, Americans are just so decadent...
Just joking. We've actually got three here too (although neither of the others is in any way mine).

The school project sounds really interesting. I hope it all does well.
